Moby's chicken revenge under disco ball

As you probably know by now, Moby had a disco album in the works. The first single is now out and the video is ready to do damage.

Do you have an uneasy feeling when political or social conscience blends with dance music. The scenario is this. You have a dance song with a beat obviously, so dancing equals party, but how do you party when watching chickens being slaughtered. Doesn't feel right. Are we supposed to boogie, laugh or think?

In other words, Moby attacks the iconic chicken colonel, that's his right - he follows Pamela Anderson, Russell Simmons, Sir Paul McCartney, Alec Baldwin and many others. And true, the meat industry does engage in cruel practices, there's plenty videos to back this up. Moby wants to raise awareness through a music video, it's been done before so what's the fuss? Does it work? Yes! And why not.

Well for some of us, the disco ball is sacred and have no place in a video of this nature. I'm all for Moby the artist (and person) and the cause but come on, blood splatter, Was that necessary?END

Hammer launches dance video site

Hammer's latest venture is doomed to fail.

MC Hammer just launched a YouTube equivalent of "So you think you can dance".

Visitors are invited to "tape" their dance moves and upload the video to the website so that they can win a camera.

So if visitors need a camera to record their dance moves in the first place, why would they want to win a ... camera?

DanceJam.com requires visitors to have the very latest version of Flash.

In no time, the majors will sue the website since dancers will use popular songs to dance to, we assume the site hasn't made a deal with Universal Music unlike YouTube.

If it does indeed become successful, that'll restore Hammer's credit rating. Although Hammer's a cool guy and I wish him well, his venture should have been better planned. How about a 63 inch LCD screen instead of a cheap camera.

Did he abandoned his "career" as a reverend? Does he still dance?

Would have supplied a screen capture but made fun of an MC Hammer record instead.END

Paris is burning for black disco icons

Oliver Cheatham and D-Train burned the stage recently in Paris France

Cheatham gave an electrifying performance getting down literally doing push-ups and singing live at the same time.

James D-Train Williams flexed his voice in a fitted T-Shirt without breaking a sweat in it. Both performed at the same venue on different dates. Notice ... the huuuge appreciative audience with their hands up in the air. 80s disco funk is alive and well.

Like they say in French "Nul n'est prophete en son pays" a popular saying translated from St Luke 4:24. END

No words on what that documentary is about; would that be diamonds from Sierra Leone or is it related to the children book she wrote

Hott Nu Disco Vids: Rivera, Nate and Jupiter

3 hott vids of a different kind

SUPER JUPITER - You Know

Mmmm, Ok, there's 2 skinny white guys from Norway trying to rollerskate on quads, they dress as if they raided the 70s section of a thrift shop, which is better? The video or the song, take your pick.

VERDICT: Silly video 70s style on a new wavish synth disco pop tune, tune is hot!

DADA Feat. SANDY RIVERA - Lollipop

Superstar dj/producer Sandy Rivera showing he can dance, sing (sort of), star in a stylish Euro 80s style video, accompanied by ladies of different flavors. He's so believable, some guys are posting jealous posts on YouTube.

VERDICT: Super catchy dance tune in a video that's as tasty as eye candy, pretty, classy and light.

ULTRA NATE - Love is the only ...

The buzz is supposed to be the Automatic video as I write this, if you're a disco soul, you'll be feeling this one better, so here's Ultra Nate in Old School diva mode (like 70s Gloria Gaynor) in a discotheque setting, very dark and floating in the air are ghosts of Sylvester and Patrick Cowley, you won't see them but you'll feel and ear 'em, I'm dead serious!

VERDICT: Intense, poignant, if you have a heartache, abstain!!!

Freddie Mercury, Borat and Miami Project

Separated at birth

Freddie Mercury and Sacha Baron "Borat" Cohen's resemblance isn't coincidental. Sacha is half Iranian (his mother) and Freddie Mercury is of Persian descent.

By the way, Queen's "Another one bites the dust" got the remix treatment thanks to our European friends at Positiva Records UK (legal and approved by Queen's remaining members). Get the 12 inch while you can here and there, The MP3 is available at the record label and other places.

View the videos at YouTube:

Queen vs Miami Project "Another one bites the dust"
Don't expect a spoof of the original, only kids breakdancing, yawn... zzzzz.

Queen "Another one bites the dust" Live at Wembley 1986
Funkier and with more kick ass basslines than the recorded version, Freddie is king

Queen "Another one bites the dust" original 1980 video
Where Borat's resemblance to Freddie is way obvious.

Pharrell Williams (Neptunes, N.E.R.D.) said "Another one bites the dust" was really big in the hood back in the days in this interview on ABC's Nightline last year (at around 1:20 in the video).

Acceptable in the 80s

It's official! The 80s are back in full force both in the mainstream and underground dance music scene.

Calvin Harris' latest "Acceptable in the 80s" has yet to show up at the record shops stateside (US), the video is buzzin', Yuppie culture, brick sized cellphones, big hair, it's all there.

View the video: Calvin Harris - Acceptable In The 80s

There are 2 versions: The one in the video is more disco, the one heard on Pete Tong's BBC show is 100 percent synth filled mid 80s electro pop style.

Can you spot PC Guy in the video? -John Hodgeman? lookalike?- He appear halfway, not in the first seconds don't confuse the geeks. Can't get enough of PC Guy? View the Mac ads!

We doubt the record will be picked-up by an American label, in the meanwhile this is the hottest import to get this month.

22 years old Harris remixed the latest by The Saints" Rock Steady.

Saddle up funky white boy

They were plenty white boys getting down in the 70s and 80s, blondie haired David Christie was one of them. Watch him and his 3 bikini clad disco babes in this delicious videotaped performance on YouTube.

"Saddle up" has a bassline very similar to One Way/Al Hudson and the partners "You can do it" from 1979.
