Disco Book: guide to bootlegs vinyl 1974-1986

Over 28 years of collecting and research into the business of bootleg disco era vinyls has now been documented, and Disco Patrick's website from the Netherlands has been converted and redesigned into a book just published and titled "The Bootleg Guide to Disco Acetates, Funk, Rap and Disco Medleys."

This is the first reference book that covers disco acetates and bootleg vinyl medleys released between 1974 and 1986.

In its 384 pages, there's ...

Listings of the most famous acetate bootleg labels - Sunshine Sound, Melting Pot Sound and Disco Queen.
Histories and interviews with acetate mixers John Morales, Rick Gianatos and Rich Flores from the people who were there.
Over 500 full colour, high resolution pictures of acetate labels and vinyl bootleg medleys.
Unique, previously unreleased pictures of djs, Walter Gibbons memorabilia, disco flyers.
Tracklistings of more than 400 bootleg vinyl and acetate medleys.

Book is printed standard and limited. Limited edition numbers to 100 and has a laser cut vinyl front and back cover signed by authors Disco Patrick, Patrick Vogt and producer/mixer Jonh Morales.

You can find out more about this book as well as order your own copy at:

As you can see, it is nowhere to be found on the tracklist.END

Make a bowl with a vinyl record

Have some vinyl 12 inch single, 33 RPM LP or 45 you're willing to sacrifice? A record so bad or unworthy that you know will take years to find a bidder on E-Bay. Put it to good use and make a bowl with it.

All you need is a vinyl record, a placeholder and an oven, it's so simple you might have wondered how come ... we didn't even think about this before.END

Return of Supermax on the dancefloor

The loving machine will be in town in a club near you (more likely in Europe).

Supermax is Kurt Hauenstein from Germany and the group behind Love Machine, the sleazy euro disco rock track that sold millions worldwide back in 1978.

Haunstein's career wasn't over after Love Machine, even though not much was heard of him stateside come the 80s, he continued performing and writing music well into the 21st century, dabbling with reggae, african grooves, soul and pop.

Supermax has just released the ... latest Vinyl and CD: REMAXED VOL. 2, only available for pre-selected Club-Djs.

In September 2007, a new double album with remixes of Supermax songs by the 20 best Djs, will hit the the market.

Supermax will perform their new remixed dancefloor music in clubs to be closer to the fans.

For those looking for Supermax Loving machine extended 12 inch version, we are pleased to announce it is included in the Disco Deutschland compilation cd wich we just reviewed this week on discostyle.comEND

Oscar winner Ennio Morricone's disco style

Morricone received a well deserved and long overdue honorary Oscar for his outstanding contribution to movie scores at the Kodak Theatre February 25th.

Let's look briefly to disco gems bearing his name...

Pictured here is "Disco '78" 12 inch EP, with the disco version of Come Maddalena arranged by Ennio himself and produced by Laurent Rossi, a gem in mellow orchestra disco. It is also amongts Jussi Kantonen's top 100 classics of all time -mentionned here- in 7 inch 45 version.

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly - starring Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef- received the disco treatment by Jurgen Gordulestch (Gaz) on the oh-so-famous Salsoul label in 1979. Its extended break is a delight to savour, arrangements were provided by Thor Baldursson, orchestral and super groovy to boost. If that wasn't enough, the B-Side is the disco breaky Sing, Sing, in which parts have been sampled countless times in early hip-hop and rap classics from the late 70s well into the early 90s. It was pressed in "marbled" lilac vinyl laced with pink and blue streaks, it's been in our disco records section since 2002 here.

There are a few other disco interpretations of Ennio Morricone's songs around. Black Light Orchestra had "A man and his harmonica" discofied beautifully, again, orchestral and soothing, it is also mentioned on the site here.

Thank you Ennio for your music.

Freddie Mercury, Borat and Miami Project

Separated at birth

Freddie Mercury and Sacha Baron "Borat" Cohen's resemblance isn't coincidental. Sacha is half Iranian (his mother) and Freddie Mercury is of Persian descent.

By the way, Queen's "Another one bites the dust" got the remix treatment thanks to our European friends at Positiva Records UK (legal and approved by Queen's remaining members). Get the 12 inch while you can here and there, The MP3 is available at the record label and other places.

View the videos at YouTube:

Queen vs Miami Project "Another one bites the dust"
Don't expect a spoof of the original, only kids breakdancing, yawn... zzzzz.

Queen "Another one bites the dust" Live at Wembley 1986
Funkier and with more kick ass basslines than the recorded version, Freddie is king

Queen "Another one bites the dust" original 1980 video
Where Borat's resemblance to Freddie is way obvious.

Pharrell Williams (Neptunes, N.E.R.D.) said "Another one bites the dust" was really big in the hood back in the days in this interview on ABC's Nightline last year (at around 1:20 in the video).

Sandy Rivera's "Lollipop", Huuuuuge!!!!

Sandy Rivera (Kings of Tomorrow) has a major hit cooking.

Think analog bass synth heavy disco stylish Hi-NRG/Space Disco (Patrick Cowley produced Hi-NRG in the 80s leaning closer to electronic space disco than Euro-dance) and an hilarious catchy hook that's naughty without bordering on vulgarity.

It's "Lollipop" by Dada featuring Sandy Rivera

It's 80s flavored, it's new, fun and powerful.

House music is declining in the hearts of clubbers lately, some djs/producers must show sign of evolution and transition to succeed in 2007 and we're not worried for Rivera, that could be his biggest hit!

Have no clue who Dada is, well could be another of his aliases.

Listen to clip here

As usual, the Brits got a "taste" :) of it first. We're still waiting for it stateside (as of December 11th 2006)

Whether it becomes a hit or not, this is GARANTEED to be a timeless future classic.

And no, Sandy didn't tell us to tell you so.

Sandy Rivera's official website is "kaput" as in dead!

78' Chilly For your love remixed again

"For your love" The disco classic by Chilly (1978) has been remixed a few times in the last 18 months. The Basement Boys and Dimitri from Paris' versions both appeared in club compilations CDs. DJ Shops couldn't keep up with supply of the 12 inch. Other remixes popped-up in the last 3 weeks by Steve Mac, Haji and Emanuel and the Basement Boys, all of them on one 12 inch single, again flying off the shelves like hotcakes. It's really good!

Pictured here is the original 1978 album by Chilly

Rock trippin' to funky house

One misconception about disco heads like us is that we don't dig rock.

Don't dig trance and techno, but 70s classic rock, yes, baby!

70s classic rock is groovy and contrary to most of today's rock, it has rhythm and soul.

The point I'm coming to is those remixed bootlegs available on vinyl at the dj shops.

Some of them are by Dirty Funker, Dirty Funker has remixed The Knack's "My Sharona", Led Zeppelin's Immigrant song and lately, "Back in Black" by AC/DC among others.

So if you love rock classics AND funky house, check Dirty Funker at MySpace or your dj shop.

I have purchased Immigrant song and Back in Black is in my next purchase list.

Dirty Funker did a brilliant and amazing job remixing Back in Black, it's so good, it makes me laugh every time I listen to it.

Other rock classics getting the remix treatment lately (not necessarily by Dirty Funker) are...

Jimi Hendrix Purple Haze and Foxy Lady, some Jim Morrison.
